Guest Post by Jackie Clark: "Beauty As Your Shield"

Hello Ladies,
Today I will be sharing a powerful article by Jackie Clark who does outreach for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, a leading web resource for mesothelioma cancer. Jackie wants to share the reality of cancer and how women can say 'YES I have cancer', but I am no less beautiful than I was before my diagnosis. Jackie and I hope you find this topic as compelling as we do.

Beauty As Your Shield

When you are a woman who lives in our current culture, it feels like everyone is trying to tell you what beauty is and what it is not. There are many people who are willing to tell you that you are too short, too tall, too dark or too pale to be beautiful. If you have recently been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, or even if you have been working through breast cancer treatment for a while, you may find that you are not feeling as beautiful as you should be! Your mood, your weight, your energy level and your physical strength are going to be fluctuating, and this all contributes to feeling as though you are tired and upset all the time. If you want to look as beautiful as you want to be, it does take effort, but in many ways, it is worth it!

Beauty is inextricably linked with fashion, and fashion is exactly what you make of it. Where do you get your favorite fashion ideas? Many people find that they get their fashion ideals from the magazines, but there is a whole other world for fashion. For example, if you go to a historical reenactment event, you will find that there are fashions that celebrate people of all sizes. If you start looking around from anywhere from vintage events to western events, there are people who have found fashions that look best on them. Remember that fashion is a highly personal thing. There has never been one fashion that is better than another, and all that matters is that you find the one that suits you the best.

Start with colors if you are feeling confused. What are the colors that make you smile whenever you see them? How can you make yourself happier through colors. While some people love decorating their houses with their favorite colors, what about decorating yourself with your favorite colors? Many women say that they cannot wear their favorite colors because it looks bad with their skin, but the truth is that many people can wear versions of their favorite colors. For example, if you have warm tones in your skin, you may not look your best in an icy blue, but you likely look wonderful in a blue that is closer to purple. Match the tone of your color to the tone of your skin, just to get started.

Remember that you should also consider the fit of a garment. If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t work. Go through your closet with this idea in mind. If a garment doesn’t fit, it doesn’t look good on you, and it won’t make you happy. Take a moment to think about where you have trouble fitting clothes. It doesn’t matter what size you are, chances are good that there is a place where you have trouble fitting. Consider having the clothes altered, which makes an amazing difference!

Fashion is for every woman who cares to take an interest in it, and if you are ready to look your best, consider what fashions suit you!
