THE ART OF FASHION

Hey Divas,
Skorch Magazine recently released it's March issue and the cover (seen below) has been getting a lot of negativity.

As a member of the Skorch blogger team I would like to say that I am very proud of this cover model concept by Captured by Chelzea. The concept was inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo who I personally LOVE!

The reason I started my blog was to prove that plus size women also love fashion and can rock it just like the next girl...however...this is much easier said than done because most fashion is not made to fit us. This fact makes it very difficult for us to rock trends and high end fashion is not even an option. What this means is that we have to get very creative when we want to get "the look" of high end fashion.

Getting creative is exactly what Skorch Magazine did with this "high fashion" themed issue. I can't believe that when we push the envelope with fashion we get ridiculed and put down because it's different or because someone believes that big girls shouldn't wear certain things. Fashion is art! I've seen all the major fashion magazines publishing Frida inspired editorial after editorial and they are praised for it.

Art is a beautiful expression of how someone has been inspired. It can come from a song, a landscape, a film, a dream, another artist, etc. Who are we to say that the way others choose to express THEIR inspiration is wrong? You may not always "get it" but that is no reason to go personally attacking others!

I am so proud of this cover because it is breaking the boundaries of plus size fashion. As a matter of fact, I am so inspired that I did my very own Frida interpretation!

This one's for you Skorch Magazine (all involved), Captured by Chelzea, the beautiful cover model Jessica Jerome, and all my plus size fashionistas! ;-)

Let's band together to break the boundaries of fashion in the plus community!
Love,
Kiah

OMG the first picture is just like her self portraits. Beautiful interpretation as always, and I really admire how creative you are. People tend to forget that a body type means nothing. You are beautiful, and so is the model. Rock on!

I think the back lash with the cover is it is kind of shocking at first. When I first seen it I was like what the?! But upon reading the high fashion issue, it totally made sense. You always see kind of crazy, not everyday sort of looks in runway. In the context of high fashion, the cover was perfect. I would also think many people would connect Frida, she really has become a very iconic character.

art and fashion have always been a creative partnership, and i am really happy this should be extending into the plus-size community, of course some will not choose avant garde but others will want to express themselves artistically - stuff the insidious remarks, they are there to make us feel unworthy and submit to 'conformity' become acceptable

Yes!!!! You are such an inspiration! Everyone has a chance to express them selves and rock whatever they want, because when one has a chance to do that they by all means need to do it. Because no one else can express you and share a different point of view other than you. So don't blend in, stand out!
