BOHO CHIC

In an effort to start saving money, I've been shopping my closet. A dreadful task I thought it would be, however, I've found quite a few treasures hidden deep within the crevices of this cave I call a closet. Take this dress for example. I bought this dress months ago and forgot I had it! I must admit that I actually found numerous brand new items which flooded me with guilt and shame. Guilt over buying new things before wearing things that I've previously purchased and shame over feeling the need to do so.

It has become very clear that my shopping has become an addiction. As a Christian, obsession with anything other than God is wrong because these things draw us away from God. The bible tells us that we are to love our Lord with all our heart, soul & might. This means that I should be spending most of my time in His Word and in His service.

Prayer:
Merciful God, today I repent for not being a better steward over what you have blessed me with and for failing to put you first. Forgive me Lord. I turn to you to help me in my weakness by reminding me of what is most important which is You. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Dress: Swan by Clements Ribeiro for Evans
Belt: Lane Bryant
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Sunnies: Vintage
Turban: Dollar Store
Earrings: Vintage

Oh Kiah, my husband and I had a budget talk last night and we determined that I will have to shop my closet for the next couple of months because we have some lofty financial commitments coming up. Thanks for the encouragement!

Can I come shop your closet? LOL...you look awesome!

Tavia
I had to say that prayer right along with you. Thanks for posting. This dress is very pretty.

I will be repeating that prayer every night because I too am addicted to shopping and my computer. I love how you styled this and I plan on shopping my own closet as well :) Thanks for inspiring us all!

I've calmed down a bit with my shopping but there are other aspects in my life that I am addicted to so that prayer was very much needed.

Meanwhile, very nice dress. And the turban was a good touch, too. Also, that lipstick shade complements your skin beautifully.

Just the encouragement I needed! I have been letting the things of this world come between me and my relationship with God and I have been convicted to get back on track. So praise the Lord for encouragement.

You look so boho luxe in your fab closet finds I'm looking forward to what else you'll come up with!

Kiah!!!
Thank you so much for this post! As bloggers its so easy to get caught up especially with the shopping!

Thank you for this great reminder. I've been on shopping freeze myself, and I was just peaking through old post to gain inspiration on how to wear somethings I've only worn once or not at all!

By the way, that turban looks great on you, I love the look of it with your hair out! FABULOUS! I love the dress too!

PS. We're going to have to get you to upgrade that phone!

Khia I love how you show the world that you can love God and be fashionable. Thank you for the reminder you can enjoy some things of the world but not be In the world...

I love the outfit, and I totally get what you're saying about "shopping your closet" and being addicted to shopping. I had to come to grips with that myself, and I'm still working on it. One thing I've found helpful is tracking everything I spend. I keep a little notebook and write down every day what I spend money on - absolutely everything - rent, bills, clothes, household items, food (my biggest expense after rent and utilities is food), transportation - everything. Then I put it all on my Out of the Dark budget. I have found Out of the Dark to be the most helpful free online budget tool. It's totally anonymous and it doesn't link to your bank account, so you don't have to worry about getting your bank account hacked through an online service. Anyway, I recommend tracking what you spend. Debtors Anonymous helped too. I don't know if that's your situation, but they help with spending problems.

Have fun shopping your closet! I look forward to some new outfits!

First, you just preached a word to me with this post. I had made a committment at the end of last year to shop less and give more in offerings, but I recently splurged more than I should have. Your post is a reminder of the committment I must have to making the Lord first and foremost in my life and remembering to get direction from God regarding my budget. Secondly, the turban and the glasses have just given me...LIFE!!! You just look so "grand dame"!
